New Yorkers are spending more time in the open air than we used to (thank you, bike lanes), but it’s still good to have a little push out the door. That’s exactly what OutdoorFest, a ten-day lineup of activities, classes and volunteering opportunities, aims to do: get apartment dwellers to engage with the natural environment around the five boroughs. The May 30 opening festivities include a warm-up happy hour with free craft beer at Whole Foods Columbus Circle (10 Columbus Circle at Broadway; 5–7pm; free) and a chance to camp at Brooklyn’s historic Floyd Bennett Field (50 Aviation Rd at Flatbush Ave, Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn; 6pm; returnable deposit $25). Look up the full schedule to save your spot for outdoor yoga, fishing, walks, nature-film screenings, trivia, bouldering, surfing and, naturally, beer drinking—can’t miss that.
