Polish National Ballet

Though existing in some form since 1785, this venerable company is definitely not stuck in the past. Since director Krzysztof Pastor took over in 2009, the troupe has been heralded throughout Europe for its athletic, complex choreography and contemporary theatricality. For its NYC debut, classical music like Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring and compositions by Schubert are given new life, and Pastor’s spare, darkly staged Moving Rooms, originally choreographed in 2008, brings a sinister intensity.
