The Muppets Most Wanted DVD Release Party (Union Hall, 702 Union St between Fifth and Sixth Aves, Park Slope, Brooklyn; 8pm; $8) is a swell way to spend your Sunday night. Muppet fan site toughpigs.com puts on a monthly event called the Muppet Vault, and its genuine love of Muppetry isn’t ironic in the slightest. Month after month, it comes up with new and rare Jim Henson–, Fraggle Rock– and Muppet-related videos to show their ever-expanding following. Expect some rousing sing-alongs, giveaways, drink specials and some surprise guests…and those are just the start. The realms of Jim Henson’s imagination were endless, from Big Bird to Grover, as are the treasure troves of new and exciting miscellany that the Muppet Vault folks keep coming up with month after month. Plus, it’s a 21+ event, so you’ll have the added benefit of having a few drinks while you remember your childhood along with a room full of like-minded aficionados. The DVD release of a new Muppet movie is practically the Super Bowl for the group, so it will surely be a special night. Maybe Kermit himself will buy that next beer for you, eh?
