Don't let the mundane name put you off. When it reopens in 2010, this unexpected treasure trove will feature the latest technology. Before its closure it contained a fascinating collection, enjoyable for children and adults, tracing the development of technology and science in Czechoslovakia - which, until the stultifying communist era, was among Europe's most innovative and industrially advanced nations. The Transport Hall contains steam trains, vintage motorcycles, racing cars and biplanes, while the claustrophobic 'mine' in the basement has sinister coal-cutting implements in place in mock tunnels. Guided tours of the mine are available in English. There's also an extensive photography and cinematography section, and a collection of rare astronomical instruments. Call or check online for precise details of its reopening date.
