In the same family for 40 years, this pensione takes its name from its most famous resident (Elizabeth Barrett Browning stayed here in 1848). A bewildering number of antiques and curios give it a vaguely eccentric feel: the reception is crowded with tapestries and statues; rooms are a mishmash of faux-classical columns, dark wood furniture, original wood-beamed ceilings and pastel walls. Breakfast (costs extra) is served in the rooms, some of which have great views over the square. Air-conditioning is €8 extra per night.
