Built in an Imperial Roman residence, later the church of Santa Croce in Gerusalemme, today this hotel takes up part of the monastery attached to the church (security gates keep the brothers from mingling with hotel guests). Reminders of the building's more devotional past are everywhere, from the huge religious canvases to the narrow ex-refectory where breakfast is served. The tastefully decorated rooms are divided into two wings, 'Conventual' and 'Aurelian'; the rooms in the former, overlooking the monastery's gorgeous vegetable garden, are the most pleasant. The roof terrace has great views.
