Bukit Pasoh is getting two new bars and a seafood restaurant
Bukit Pasoh has always been Keong Saik's sleepier neighbour, but three new openings by the team behind the raucously fun Sugarhall and Jigger & Pony might change that. Humpback Indra Kantono and Gan Guoyi, the husband-and-wife team behind the two Amoy Street bars, have tapped into their holiday memories for their new 40-seater seafood restaurant, Humpback, which opens on August 6. Having shucked live oysters off the Washington coast, they’re channelling their newfound love for fresh seafood into a raw bar, with shells culled from coasts around the world. The tight menu of fresh raw oysters is complemented by executive chef Polo Seah's dishes of sea life like calamari, mussels and black cod, as well as refreshing plates of beetroot with citrus and pine nuts. Manning the bar is Sugarhall drinks maker Long Yishu. He serves white spirit cocktails created by the group's bar programme director, Aki Eguchi, while other drinks like white wines and bubblies are also on hand to lift palates in between forkfuls of seafood. Gibson On the second floor of the shophouse, Gibson translates the pair's international bar crawl adventures into a playground for Eguchi's creativity. The 60-strong list of cocktails, said to be served in vintage glassware, is split into categories like: 'Finding Comfort' for familiar flavours; 'Forging Friendship' for cocktails that challenge conventions; and 'Sharing Happiness' for fun beverages that spit flames, bubble with smoke and, in the oyster shooter

Nanyang, the Musical
This performance explores the lives of Singapore’s first-generation artists, who moved here after being driven out of China during WWII. The story follows their journey as they eke out their careers and discover unique artistic styles. Performed in Mandarin with English surtitles. Part of SIFA 2015.
A collaboration between some of Singapore’s most illustrious film directors, 7 Letters is a milestone film project that strings together seven short pieces capturing the lives and stories of everyday Singaporeans, featuring works by Boo Junfeng, Eric Khoo, K Rajagopal, Jack Neo, Tan Pin Pin, Royston Tan and Kelvin Tong. 7 Letters will be the first film to premiere at the refurbished Capitol Theatre. Out of six screenings, three will be reserved for the elderly, film and arts students and the underprivileged. All proceeds from the gala screenings will go to seven charities, including the Alzheimer’s Disease Association and Transient Workers Count Too. Tickets are not priced – instead, viewers are encouraged to make a donation at the screenings. Tickets for the Jul 24-26 screening are sold out. Additional screenings have been added for Aug 8-10 at Gallery Theatre, The National Museum of Singapore. Tickets for the additional screenings can only be bought on Aug 1-2 at the front desk of The National Museum of Singapore.
Scoops of Hope
As part of this year’s Sands for Singapore Charity Festival, Marina Bay Sands' celebrity chef restaurants are teaming up to craft eight exclusive gelato flavours for the Scoops of Hope pop-up gelato store at The Shoppes. In conjunction with the Golden Jubilee celebrations, the gelato flavours will play special tribute to Singapore, with CUT by Wolfgang Puck concocting the Gula Melaka gelato, and Adrift by David Myers creating the Masala Teh Tarik gelato, to name a few. All proceeds will go towards The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund. The gelatos are priced at $4.50 for a single scoop, $8 for a double scoop and $12 for a triple scoop.
