Any time of the year is the perfect time to visit Tasmania. If you’re from the mainland, particularly the top half, you’ll love the fact that Tassie actually has four distinct seasons, including a proper winter. But don’t let the cool weather deter you – Tasmania is set up for the cold, and most Airbnbs (and pubs!) come complete with a cosy wood fire.

In autumn, you’ll be treated to a majestic palette of fiery-coloured foliage; in summer, you can paddle in the impossibly azure waters of Tassie’s beaches; and in spring, the flowers and baby animals will delight.

Now that we’ve convinced you to book a plane ticket to Hobart, the next step is to choose your accommodation. From upscale beachside cabins to rural properties and architect-designed award winners, here’s a list of the best Airbnbs in Hobart.

Best Airbnbs in Hobart

  • Hotels
  • West Hobart

Where: West Hobart

Light the fire, dim the lights and cue “Lumiere, darling”. In fact, play Ed Sheeran on repeat because those words echo through the walls at Lumierè Lodge, a beautiful Victorian-style homestead in the leafy foothills of West Hobart. Rich in colour and character, this three-bedroom lodge is a perfect escape from big city life – yet it’s only a five minute drive from Hobart’s city centre. Making yourself at home in Lumierè’s open-plan kitchen and dining area is almost too easy, especially with its seamless flow through bi-fold doors to a sunny courtyard. When the noise dies down, you can cosy up with complimentary whisky beside the crackling flames of the traditional baker’s oven fire, or retreat to one of the two clawfoot baths where you can melt away under the warm glow of the stained glass window.

Sleeps: Six guests

Budget range: A tad expensive with a minimum two-night stay required, but the luxurious touches are sure to win you over

2. Slow Beam

Where: West Hobart

Slow Beam has been featured in basically every global design and architecture publication, and it’s obvious why. This West Hobart Airbnb is dramatic and stark, yet also cosy and luxurious, perched on a hill surrounded by rugged bush overlooking the city. You’ll simultaneously feel like you’re in a magazine but also at one with nature, and as a bonus, you’ll find fancy touches like Le Labo toiletries, Market Lane coffee beans and most importantly, Tassie gin. Slow Beam might feel remote, but it’s just a quick eight-minute drive to Hobart’s famous waterfront.

Sleeps: Two guests

Budget range: It’s not a cheap getaway, but quiet luxury costs less here than on the mainland

Want an Airbnb with five-star reviews? This classic 1910s residence deserves a spot on your Hobart hitlist. The beautifully restored heritage home blends old-world grandeur with modern convenience. Think soaring ceilings, ornate fireplaces, antique chandeliers, paired with sleek bathrooms and a modern kitchen. With four spacious bedrooms and four bathrooms, it’s ideal for families and friend groups alike. Better yet, some of Hobart’s best cafés, bars and restaurants are just around the corner, while Salamanca, the waterfront, the CBD and MONA are all within easy reach. On the smaller end of rural retreats is this adorable space in Dulcot, situated in the Coal River Valley. While it looks like it’s in the middle of nowhere, this Airbnb is just six minutes away from the charming historic town of Richmond, close to loads of wineries and 25 minutes from Hobart. Ideal for a couple (or even just you, if you really want to escape reality), this simple yet chic purpose-built cottage has a loft bedroom, walls lined with Tassie oak, a cute little fireplace and massive windows looking out to nothing but nature. There’s no TV, but who needs that when you’ve got a view like this?

Budget range: For something so charming and in such a prime bush location, it’s a real steal

5. The Barn Tasmania

Where: Hobart

Another cleverly converted farm building, this barn rather incongruously sits smack in the CBD of Hobart. The quaint yet upmarket stay is owned by two architects who came up with the award-winning conversion themselves. As a result, it makes good use of its relatively small space, showcasing original timber beams and sandstone walls while offering all the modern perks (wi-fi, a laundry, a TV, fancy bed linen) that one has come to expect from a top-rated Airbnb. This location is unbeatable if you want to make the most of sightseeing in central Hobart, which you could do entirely on foot from here.

Sleeps: Two guests

Budget range: On the higher end for one-bed places in Hobart, but considering its location and award-winning reputation, the price tag makes sense

6. Chic Pied-à-Terre Braithwaite

Where: Sandy Bay

If hotels aren’t quite your thing, this Airbnb in Hobart’s Sandy Bay just might be. Winner of Airbnb’s Host of the Year 2025, Braithwaite is a chic pied-à-terre tucked inside a former bakery. Every corner feels thoughtfully considered, with clever nods to the building’s history. Designed by JAWS Architects (the masterminds behind Pumphouse Point), you'll love the glass-cornered dining area, heated bathroom flooring and a sun-drenched courtyard that instantly makes you want to stay longer. Venture out to Salamanca, cafés and waterfront attractions, all within easy reach. Come evening, pour a glass of Tassie pinot and sink into the private outdoor bath beneath the stars. Peaceful and packed with personality, hosts Alix and John are sure to make your stay memorable.

Sleeps: Two guests

Where: West Hobart

Planning a winery-hopping weekend with friends? This beautifully renovated Federation cottage in West Hobart delivers the best of both worlds: heritage character and contemporary comfort. After a day out wandering North Hobart’s buzzing café and bar scene (or checking out those wineries), return home to soak in the spa, warm up in the private sauna and take in the city views from the deck. With four queen bedrooms, generous living spaces and a self-contained studio, there’s plenty of room for everyone to spread out. Thoughtfully styled and just a short jaunt from Hobart’s best attractions, you might not want to check out.

Sleeps: Eight guests

Budget range: Pretty decent, given that your costs can be shared between eight people

8. Orchards Nest

Where: Lucaston

You don’t have to travel far from Hobart to find peaceful farmland. The picturesque Huon Valley, the gateway to the Far South which is full of places to explore, is only half an hour away. This spacious, family-friendly farm retreat is set high on a hill and is beautifully decorated in moody hues of deep green and burgundy to reflect the landscape outside. The house is completely private and comes with its own on-site bushwalking track and an outdoor hot tub purpose-built to take in the valley views. Pick up a bottle of local pinot noir and make the most of it.

9. White Barn

Where: West Hobart

For Scandinavian living that is more elevated than Ikea, try West Hobart’s White Barn on for size. Perfect for a family or couple’s trip, it’s bright, airy and spacious, with clean lines and an open-plan kitchen and living area. If you need a quiet moment to yourself, spread out on one of the window benches and soak up the morning rays with a coffee and a book to truly disassociate from your non-holiday reality. While it’s technically in lovely and historic West Hobart, it’s on the fringes of North Hobart, which means it's a quick walk to some of the best cafés and restaurants in the city.

Sleeps: Four guests

Budget range: A total steal considering its size and location

10. The Stables

Where: Hobart

Formerly accommodation deemed only suitable for horses, The Stables (how about that for an apt name?) has had quite the glow-up since it was first built circa 1850. Now completely renovated, rejuvenated and without a single piece of hay in sight, this space is elegant and luxuriously furnished, while still showing off original features, like the rough stone walls and perfectly imperfect timber floors. In winter, you’ll have to be peeled away from the toasty fireplace. The Stables is on one of the major roads of Hobart, meaning it has easy access via car to anywhere you need to go.

Sleeps: Two guests

Budget range? Standard inner-Hobart pricing for a getaway with a luxe vintage feel

11. The Container on Mt Arthur

Where: Lilydale

Obviously “getting back to nature” is high on your list if you’re coming down to Tasmania, and The Container is the place to do it. While it’s not in Hobart, we couldn’t resist including this tranquil nature getaway on the list. FYI, Lilydale, a spot in the Tamar Valley near plenty of wineries, is less than a 30-minute drive from Launceston. This eco-cabin is a recycled shipping container turned upscale with welcome touches, like an organic breakfast hamper, outdoor bath, flax linen, Aesop bath products, a record library – and even a Fender guitar to strum on as you enjoy the view of the rolling green hills before you.

Sleeps: Up to two guests

Budget range: Not the cheapest accommodation, especially in this rural area, but the views are priceless
