After pulling off a spectacular and star-studded Opening Ceremony, artistic director Thomas Jolly will once again work his magic with the Closing Ceremony at Stade de France. Named ‘Records’, the indoor extravaganza will bring together more than 100 performers, acrobats, dancers and circus artists in a dystopian setting. The Paris 2024 official website teases a line-up of world-renowned singers, giant sets, original soundtracks, costumes and spectacular lighting.
Like always, the ceremony will also involve the closing parade (where athletes carry their nation’s flag), a medal presentation (likely for the women’s marathon), speeches, the passing of the Olympic flag from Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo to Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, and the extinguishing of the Olympic flame.
Rumour has it that Mission Impossible star, Tom Cruise, will hand the Olympic flag to Los Angeles for the 2028 Games. According to TMZ, the 62-year-old actor has filmed stunts in both LA and Paris for a special pre-taped segment of the Closing Ceremony.
In the scene, Cruise will descend from the top of the Stade de France, landing on the field with the Olympic flag in hand. The TV broadcast will then switch to a pre-recorded stunt where Cruise skydives past the Hollywood sign, following footage of him flying with the Olympic flag from Paris to Los Angeles.
US presenter Jimmy Fallon and sports commentator Mike Tirico will co-host the 2024 Olympics Closing Ceremony. It has been confirmed that French bands Air and Phoenix will perform on the night, with Billie Eilish, the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Snoop Dogg also recently added to this top-tier roster.
Paddler Jessica Fox and hockey veteran Eddie Ockenden were named as dual flag bearers for Australia in the 2024 Olympics Opening Ceremony. Australia is yet to announce its flag bearers for the Closing Ceremony.
