Time Out says

Hotel Borneta by Miiro Hotels is one of the city’s newer hotels (opened in 2024), found in one of Barcelona’s most vibrant neighbourhoods, in a privileged location under the arcades of Passeig Picasso next to Ciutadella, one of Barcelona’s largest parks. And its credentials are pretty hard to beat. Even its name is a statement of intent and a tribute to the Born district, where it blends into the idea of urban, contemporary luxury that avoids extravagance and instead focuses on details – from the decoration of the rooms and common areas to the food at the restaurant, its terrace and its breakfasts.

Why stay at Hotel Borneta?

Borneta is the perfect base for discovering the city like a local – in fact it somehow manages to feel like staying at a friend’s house (the kind of friend you wish you had when visiting Barcelona). The building is visually stunning and characterised by classic local architecture. It was actually already a hotel before being fully remodelled in 2024, and it’s perfectly in tune with the neighbourhood’s cultural and artistic vibe. Borneta strikes a balance between comfort, location, service and good food – exactly what you want from an urban hotel with a bit of soul.

What are the rooms like at Hotel Borneta?

Borneta has 92 rooms across half a dozen categories, including junior suites and one suite. They differ in size and layout, but all have street views and many include a small balcony overlooking the city. Beyond these differences – and exclusive touches reserved for some, like the suite’s bathtub on its large terrace – they all share a stylish, modern, welcoming design with extremely comfortable beds. Le Labo toiletries are a treat, as is the rainfall shower.

What’s the food like at Hotel Borneta?

The food scene in the surrounding neighbourhood, El Born, is diverse, interesting and top quality, so it’s well worth heading out to explore restaurants and cocktail bars. But the good news is that the hotel’s own Volta restaurant is also excellent, and quickly became another of our favourites in the area. Serving Mediterranean cuisine from Barcelona with local ingredients, it also takes in Italian dishes and flavours from further afield, like the Middle East. There’s also a good selection of wines and cocktails, and prices are generally very reasonable. In addition to breakfast, every Sunday they host an excellent brunch – now one of the city’s favourites for its value for money.

What’s the service like at Hotel Borneta?

Friendly, attentive and ready to help, the service reflects the hotel’s philosophy of small-scale, urban hospitality. A compact reception welcomes guests, and the music playing is usually so good you might find yourself dancing in the lift up to your room. The atmosphere is modern and international, and service isn’t overly stuffy or fussy. Hotel Borneta isn’t strictly a family hotel, but children are welcome – though it’s probably best suited to young, chilled-out travellers on a city break. The staff do a great job in the common spaces, from the restaurant and cocktail bar to the beautiful terrace under the exterior arcades. There’s also a courtesy room to make early check-ins and late check-outs easier – a real plus when travel schedules don’t align with hotel timings.

What are the pools and facilities like at Hotel Borneta?

We’ve got good news: Hotel Borneta, lthough relatively small and centrally located, is still home to a rooftop pool. It’s not huge, but the space is well used, with loungers and tables for relaxing and enjoying views over this part of the city and Ciutadella Park. It’s best to pick your times if you want peace and a free spot. In season, there’s also a small bar up there for poolside drinks or warm Barcelona evenings. For those who like to keep active, there’s a compact, stylish gym – but the library is our favourite space of all, by a mile.

What’s the are like around Hotel Bornet?

The location in El Born is one of the hotel’s strongest draws – it even lends its name. Just steps from Ciutadella Park and close to sights like the Picasso Museum, you’re just a 20-minute walk from the city centre here, and it’s a scenic one too, passing through the Gothic Quarter and other delights along your way. Barceloneta and its beaches are also about the same distance, so you can tick off every box you’re after in one trip when you stay here. But even without leaving El Born, the cultural and food options are endless in this walkable district. Some of our favourite spots to eat are 7 Portes for local cuisine, Estimar for seafood and Grasshoper for ramen – but most bars you pop into will be a great vibe for an evening.

Why book Hotel Borneta?

Ideal for a quick city break or a longer holiday exploring Barcelona and its surroundings, Borneta is a perfect example of a new generation of small city hotels that not only welcome visitors but also become part of the neighbourhood, thanks to being home to a really great restaurant and bar. Stylish and welcoming in the modern sense, I’d recommend this hotel 100 percent, especially for travellers seeking an international, youthful vibe. And yes, it’s pet-friendly too. Need we say more?
