An urban beach without a chiringuito? No way! Right in the heart of Mar Bella —one of Barcelona’s few nudist beaches— you’ll find BeGay, the city’s only openly LGTBIQ+ beach bar. With great music, a spacious covered terrace, chill-out areas and hammocks right on the sand, it’s the perfect spot to cool off in the shade.
To drink: coffee, tea, fresh juices, soft drinks, wines, mixed drinks and cocktails crafted with care and flair. To eat, the menu is as eclectic as it is inclusive: from a continental breakfast with scrambled eggs, to vermouth-time classics like anchovies, olives and crisps, plus salads, gourmet sandwiches, burgers, Tex-Mex dishes, pokes, and raw options like ceviche, tartare or steak tartare. Of course, there are also well-thought-out vegetarian and vegan choices.
The vibe is exactly what you’d expect from a beach chiringuito: laid-back, summery and relaxed, with a mix of locals, expats and tourists. The crowd is mostly male, and yes, six-packs abound. During Circuit Festival, it becomes a must-visit hotspot.
BeGay proudly holds the Biosphere Certified stamp, which recognises its commitment to environmental sustainability and responsible practices. It’s also part of the Random Victoria hospitality group, the team behind other venues like La Rotonda beach bar in El Masnou.
Feet in the sand, cocktail in hand, and the sun (or moon, depending on the hour) shining above. What more could you ask for? Just a heads-up: it’s only open during the summer season, from May to September.
