The traditional festival of Aquelarre de Cervera has been celebrated in Cervera on the last weekend of August since 1978. It has become incredibly popular and draws a loyal following of people fascinated with witches, fire and water. For three days, the city is awash in spectacular shows, magic and correfocs featuring dozens of witches and the Macho Cabrío (a satyr) as protagonists. The festival also includes parallel activities such as a naturist fair, parades and activities for children. The event began the year the Assemblea de Joves de Cervera looked for a new place to hold a party and decided to do so in the street of the witches.
