Time Out says

Despite its name, the Komische Oper puts on a broader range than just comic works, and, after its founding in 1947, made its reputation by breaking with the old operatic tradition of 'costumed concerts' - singers standing around on stage - and putting an emphasis on 'opera as theatre'. Most of its productions are sung in German. Discounted tickets are sold immediately before performances.
