Time Out says

Ever since 1876 there's been an agricultural show held at the showgrounds in Bowen Hills. Originally called the Brisbane Exhibition, now known as the Royal Queensland Show, the August event is referred to by most people as the 'Ekka'. Families flock here for the rides, sideshows and showbags as well as the animals, family entertainment and fireworks. If you didn't get lost at the Ekka as a small child, then you can't really claim to be a Brisbane kid.

Only a kilometre and a half from the centre of town, the showgrounds are also a dining and retail hub and the scene for major annual events including concerts, festivals and expos. The venue is also home to the Royal International Convention Centre (Royal ICC), and a Rydges Hotel.
