Are you in the NOLA section of New Orleans? No, you’re in Caxton Street, but the good times are gonna roll just like any wild night in the Big Easy. Seymour’s Cocktails & Oysters is a speakeasy that specialises in freshly shucked oysters, expertly mixed drinks, a jazz soundtrack and an early 20th century ambience.
In addition to oysters by the half dozen (both natural and Kilpatrick) they have Scotch eggs, spanner crab ‘cigars’, Mooloolaba scallops, and Moreton Bay bug ravioli. Special events include degustation dinner Sundays and ‘Raid the Cellar’ Thursdays, wherein all wines that are normally over $100 are half price. On Wednesdays, it’s all about the bubbles: half a dozen oysters and two glasses of Perrier-Jouët Grand Brut Champagne are just $49. Sundays are even better with a four-course set meal for $50 to be enjoyed to the strains of a live jazz act.
If you so desire, oysters come with a miniature bottle of Laphraoig single malt; you add a dash of whisky to each bivalve using the little eye dropper. Just ask the waitress when you order – it’s at no extra cost.
