In case you didn’t know it, September is Bourbon Heritage Month, which celebrates the history of America’s favourite spirit. Australia's distilling history dates back to the convict era and has racked up global awards along the way, but let’s face it, Aussies have a serious soft spot for American whiskey. Considering our country is the second-largest export for US distilled spirits, we’d wager there are more than a few people who’d be keen to raise a glass.
To mark the occasion, Cheers! Spirits from the USA is teaming up with two top local haunts to host a series of free events around Brisbane for Aussie Bourbon fans to take part in.
First up: Barrels and Stills – a specialty-focused wine bar that knows its way around a well-aged drop – will be pouring bourbon flights, running masterclasses and hosting pairings and free tastings across three weekends in September. Expect big names from Kentucky like Bardstown Bourbon Company, Green River Whiskey, Yellowstone, Penelope Bourbon and Barrel Craft Spirits.
Over at Cru Bar, the sleek James Street staple, they’ve lined up a trio of tasting events on September 12, 19 and 26, featuring drops from Green River, Bardstown, Woodford Reserve and Angel’s Envy.
If your idea of a good time involves sipping and savouring whiskey in some of Australia's best drinking dens, consider your September sorted.
