The Body Electric were one of the definitive Melbourne bands of the 1990s. Full of dark passion and intense, soulful energy they featured the songwriting skills of one of Australia’s finest Charlie Marshall along with an all star cast including Jim White and Warren Ellis from the Dirty Three, Brian Hooper of Beasts of Bourbon and Darren Seltmann of The Avalanches. These other bands went on to global success but the fates meant The Body Electric never received the exposure they deserved, remaining something of a Melbourne secret.

Charlie’s musical history owes a lot to Brisbane’s early new wave pioneers. Inspired by The Saints, Go Betweens and Ed Kuepper’s Laughing Clowns he formed another legendary Melbourne band in the 1980’s, the blues punk powerhouse Harem Scarem. With The Body Electric in the 90s he combined this bluesy, soulful, rock rhythmic sense with a songwriting craft inspired by the likes of Brian Wilson, J Mascis and Jimmy Webb and vocal style somewhere between Dylan, Iggy and Leonard Cohen to create a unique sound.

2016 saw the release of the Body Electric retrospective lp ‘Won’t Give Up’ and after an extended break from music, Charlie has returned to the live scene with renewed energy and vigour and a band featuring former Body Electric members Bryan Colechin (Hugo Race True Spirit) on bass and Brett Poliness (Siver Ray, Hugo Race) on drums. Charlie Marshall and the Body Electric now travel to Brisbane for the first time to relaunch these ‘lost Australian classics’.

It has been a very colourful twelve months for Sabrina Lawrie. After overcoming a serious back injury in early 2016, she has returned to the stage with a vibrant new energy and a story to tell.

Sabrina's long awaited debut solo album 'Hush The Mountain' is due for release in March 2017 through new indie label Pig City Records with the first single to be launched in February.

Joining Sabrina onstage for her performance at The Junk Bar's Skukum Lounge in January will be her full band The Hunting Party. Expect to hear them playing some of her previously unheard material from the forthcoming record and introducing some new members and more intimate sounds to the stage.
