COUPLET

Curated by Queensland Poetry Festival, presents a very special April COUPLET featuring some of QLD's most dynamic Indigenous voices as part of this monthly performance & poetry event.

Friday 7 April 530–645pm

Featured artists:

Theresa Creed

Theresa Creed is an elder of the Kalkadoon and Pitta Pitta nations. She has previously performed as a contemporary dancer, actor and singer/songwriter. In recent years she has been writing poems and performing with the Kurilpa Poets as well as featuring at Queensland Poetry Festival 2016.

Graham Akhurst + Nausicaa

After recently premiering a series of collaborations for Borrowed Verse at the Woodford Folk Festival, this special COUPLET performance will extend the work of these two artists into new territory. Graham Akhurst is an Aboriginal writer hailing from the Kokomini of Northern Queensland, published in Australia and the US for poetry and short fiction. He also lectures in Indigenous Studies at the University of Queensland. Nausicaa is a project of musician Alex Bell, with songs unashamedly crafted within the dusty recesses of poetry and literature.

Waverly Stanley Jnr (guest MC)

Waverley Stanley Jnr is a poet, writer and actor. Waverly was Highly Commended at the 2016 Black&write Indigenous Writing and Editing Project Fellowships as well as a featured poet at QPF2016. He also recently obtained a scholarship to study Creative Writing at QUT (Queensland University of Technology)
