You know that thrill you experience when you purchase something using Afterpay, and the satisfaction that comes with knowing you’ve got weeks to pay it off? Well, now you can get that same feeling the next time you order a pot and parma. That’s right, the company that allows us to shop now and pay later is also inviting us to dine now and pay later.
Australian Venue Co (AVC) has just become the first hospitality group in the country to partner directly with Afterpay. That means as of November 1 in Sydney, and November 15 in all other states, if you visit any of AVC’s 160 venues – including much-loved spots like Manly Wine in Sydney, College Lawn Hotel in Melbourne and Riverland in Brisbane – you can eat and drink to your heart’s content and then pay it all off over four instalments.
According to AVC CEO Paul Waterson, the collaboration was driven by customer demand and a desire to lead the industry in forward-thinking tech solutions.
“Our customers have been clear,” he says. “We know what they want, and we’re happy to offer them more flexibility, especially as they shift away from credit cards.
“We’re not afraid to go first. As a group, we seek out other industry leaders who we can work with to innovate on behalf of our customers.”
And after a difficult few years for the dining and hospitality sectors, any initiative that helps rebuild the industry and entice patrons to go out again is one to get behind.
