GROOVE & GRAPE featuring Mel Lathouras
Born in Bundaberg, Mel grew up with the sounds of Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan and 80's Greek pop music blaring from her family stereo.

Her first encounter with jazz was as a seven year old when her Dad bought her a Nina Simone cassette tape. Transfixed by Simone's dark glorious tone and the vibrant sounds of the music, she became hooked.

Fast forward to now, after a musical background singing classical, performing in garage rock bands as well as living in London and in Shanghai, she has completed a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance as well as a Masters' of Music at Queensland Conservatorium , Griffith University.

She performs regularly in her hometown of Brisbane at venues such as the Brisbane Powerhouse, Judith Wright Centre, JMI Live, Ric’s Bar, the Brisbane Jazz Club and Jazz Upstairs. Recently she travelled to Osaka, Japan to sing in an Osaka City Government and Australian Consulate Concert at the International House and to conduct a singing workshop for the Sumiyoshi Girls and Boys Chorus. She is a member of the Painted Ladies - a tribute band to the legendary Aboriginal activist and musician Vic Simms - performing with the group at 2015 Womadelaide.

Her top five influences are McCoy Tyner, Betty Carter, Miles Davis, Nancy Wilson and the Ramones. Mel's life ambition is to keep learning and getting better at performing this ever changing, limitless genre of jazz.
