HEYA BAR - Fortitude Valley
10pm - 10.30pm

Known for her charged, dynamic live performances and genre-defying writing style, Kira Puru is widely respected as one of Australia’s biggest voices. Since the folding of her band, Kira Puru & the Bruise in 2013, Puru has collaborated and toured as a writer and feature vocalist with Paul Kelly, Illy, Paul Mac and Urthboy amongst others and is the voice of ABC’s Redfern Now.

Having earned a throng of dedicated fans and industry accolades with her versatility and power, Puru is again centre stage with a new band, songs and sound. Her new work combines a love for hard-hitting hip-hop beats, a shameless obsession with trashy pop music and an admiration for earnest, confronting lyricism.

With Gabe Stranjio (Clairy Browne, Boatfriends), Shanna Watson (Boatfriends, Caitlin Park, the Early Nights, BirdsandBelles) and Sam Peterson (Boatfriends, the Evening Son) on the lineup, Puru’s live sound couples dreamy, electronic beats with warm, live instrumentation. A collision of pillowy R&B, janky industrial textures and whiplash vocals, Puru’s sonic vision is dark, gloomy, cooked pop ~ anything but a vapid soul throwback.

“One of my favourite singers” Paul Kelly “

"There’s certainly nothing dull about this. It’s supremely confident, utterly stylish and Kira’s swooning vocals compliment the superb down-tempo electronic soundtrack perfectly" AusPop

"Kira Puru doesn’t rely on serious vocal talent alone, having crafted some fine songs and a coherent and compelling aesthetic sensibility" BMA Mag

“Compelling....dramatic....sublimely melodic” Musicfeeds

"Kira Puru is such an incredible standout. Definitely one vocalist to be watching in 2016" AU Review

“Often live reviews will stretch lines of hyperbole kilometres long to not offend anyone. But then you’ll
find an act like Kira Puru who actually deserves it" Tone Deaf
