More Than Concrete And Steel says
A historian, an indigenous activist and an urban designer walk into a bar, to talk about community organising in South Brisbane.

This is the first in a series of talks organised by the Right to the City Campaign and Brisbane Free Univeristy. The series will focus on the Right to the City. The idea that as inhabitants of Brisbane we deserve the right to have a say in how the city evolves. It will aim to break down this seemingly abstract concept into managble bite-sized pieces that can be consumed on your average weeknight. These talks will span a diverse range of topics under the banner of the Right to the City including truly affordable housing, inclusive public space, feminist planning, anti-colonial planning and renter rights. They will aim to contextualise these concepts to everyday experiences of urbanized Brisbanites like yourself.

Who has the right to the city? Who is excluded from our city? How can we resist and change this?

'More than Concrete and Steel' will contextualise exclusion in inner city Brisbane, how this relates to affordable housing and broader scale issues of equity and justice.

We look at different examples of campaigns for housing affordability, the right to live in the inner city, equity issues surrounding displacement and the importance of a diverse population to the character of our neighbourhood.

Join us to learn about 4101's history of creative resistance and spirited dissent.
