Featuring Poet Matt Hetherington and Music Act Miss Gertrude

Matt Hetherington is a writer, music-maker, and moderate self-promoter living in Brisbane. He has been writing poetry for over 30 years, and has published 4 poetry collections and over 300 poems. His first all-haiku/senryu collection For Instance was published in March 2015 by Mulla Mulla Press. He is also on the board of the Australian Haiku Society.

Matt has performed his work at festivals around the country, including Melbourne Writers’ Festival (2000, 2008), Newcastle Young Writers’ Festival (2002), Melbourne Emerging Writers’ Festival (2004), Queensland Poetry Festival (2005, 2007, 2011), Adelaide Fringe Festival (2007, with Henry Manetta and the Trip), Noosa Long Weekend Festival (2006), Woodford Folk Festival (2008 and 2009), International Festival of Literature, Ideas, and Translation (The Light in Winter Festival, 2012), Tasmanian Poetry Festival (2012). Some current inspirations are: electric-period Miles Davis, his 6-year-old daughter Jess, and plain old sunshine.

Music Act Miss Gertrude
Born from the booming coffee culture of Ipswich, Singer, Songwriter & Performer Miss Gertrude has been gaining popularity and a cult following within South East Queensland.
Miss Gertrude defines her musical style as ‘SOULK’, a delicious blend of soul and folk, with a style that seems to resonate and connect with audiences of all ages. Performing original material and delivering tasteful interpretations of classics across a number of genres, Miss Gertrude is a name on the rise as she continues to gain exposure across the South East.

Experience poetry read by an established poet with musical interludes and the opportunity to engage with the conversation or to sit back and watch it all unfold.

These evenings are BYO and guests can bring along their own drinks and refreshments to enjoy at their table throughout the evening.

Rhyme, Rhythm and Reason evenings are presented in collaboration with Solidarity Külture Ćlub on the following Tuesday Nights:
