State Library of Queensland says

An extraordinary opportunity to see Australia's only original copy Shakespeare's First Folio up close.

For one night only, this literary masterpiece will be presented on display at State Library of Queensland, on loan from State Library of New South Wales.

Rare books expert Maggie Patton will take you on a page turning discussion about this global treasure, providing insight into the First Folio’s history, Shakespeare’s idiosyncrasies, and the English language and playwriting as it then was.

Apart from the bible, the First Folio is considered the most influential book ever published in the English language. This literary masterpiece was published in 1623, seven years after Shakespeare’s death, and features 36 of Shakespeare’s plays including The Tempest and Twelfth Night which might have otherwise been lost forever.

Following Maggie’s presentation, some of State Library of Queensland’s own rare, remarkable and significant treasures will be showcased.

Presented by State Library of Queensland with the support of Queensland Library Foundation, and in association with QPAC’s Royal Ballet season of Shakespeare’s The Winter Tale.
