These Guy says
In late February, Brisbane alt-pop mavericks These Guy will be leaving their beloved hometown of Brisbane for the beauteous nature and mountains of Southwest Canada. To celebrate, they’re doing what any down-to-Earth, business-savvy band would do - releasing their second LP WHO IS IT? and launching it at The Foundry Brisbane on Friday Feb 3rd.

These Guy properly flopped onto the scene in mid-2015 after main songwriter Joe Saxby turnt it into a 3-piece band with Josh Coxon (Simi Lacroix, Seahorse Divorce) and Edward L’Estrange (Pleco). Since then, they’ve used a combination of teamwork, strength and spirituality to get to know each other and cultivate a small but devoted following. In June 2016, they released their first LP Lunchbox, which whothehell.net says feels “like a pleasant hallucinatory experience - you’ll go places you didn’t know existed and come out wondering where the hell you’ve been and how you can get back there.”

WHO IS IT? is These Guy’s suspiciously prompt follow-up, and it represents a determined, striking sonic reinvention. Slightly darker and weirder (but also poppier) than Lunchbox, it’s a confused-sounding record about trying to economically and emotionally scrape by. Saxby describes it as “a kind of exhausted and sad take on 80s radio pop”.

Joining These Guy onstage for the night will be three of Brisbane’s hugest gems:

- young men First Beige (psychedelic jams with an urban good-time style)
- hot MC YOUNG Trouble (most amazing rapper in East Brisbane)
- synth lord S>c>r>a>p>s (creator of wonderful music for absolutely ages)

This will be These Guy’s last show in Brisbane (and Australia) for the foreseeable future, which itself is extremely unclear. Come along and celebrate this nice band with your friend/s one last time, before they’re totally out of your life. God bless.

These Guy CDs and bespoke merch will be on sale.

Tix: $10 on the door.
