These Guy says
On a blustery mid-July night in the moderately lodge-like settings of Fortitude Valley’s Black Bear Lodge, These Guy will be launching their very first LP, Lunchbox. As a celebration of vibe, insanity, and eclectic musical magic, the evening will see Theezies bringing a revitalised live show, in which they’ll transmit some favourites from the record, as well as a sizeable slab of brand new material.

Originally the project of songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Joe Saxby, These Guy expanded into a band-type situation in early 2015 when Saxby enlisted the much-needed help of guitarist Josh Coxon, and drummer Eddie L’Estrange. Since then, the whole thing has been on the up and/or up, with certain of their tracks garnering bless’d Triple J acclaim, and whothehell.net deeming “Coming Around” one of the best tracks out of Australia last year. More recently, they’ve blessed the Brisbane live circuit by playing The Blurst of Times, and supporting various esteemed acts such as Babaganouj, Good Boy, and Milwaukee Banks.

Lunchbox, as a record, consolidates These Guy’s erratic sound, taking the listener on a kaleidoscopic aural goose-chase through the realms of jangle pop, psych, techno, ambient, yacht-rock, and straight-to-VHS aerobics music. Sounds and inspirations were lifted from travels reaching across London, Paris, Berlin, Mumbai, and of course, Brissy, and the music therefore reflects a certain sense of non-belonging to anywhere or anything specific. It concerns itself with love, boredom, aimlessness, long-distance relations, pointless nostalgia, and anger. All in all, that’s a lot of things - can I get a “wow”?

Bountiful CD copies of the album and various other These Guy-related knick-knacks will be available for your collection on the night. Special guests Madboots and Corporate Vibes will also be doing sensational things onstage, and Theezers will also be spinning a #highculture Genius Playlist of glorious slow-jams throughout the evening in order to complement the luscious moonlight that’s sure to be glowing outside the venue.

This night is going to be so huge, and so nice. The human race is just one big family, and trust me, most of it will miss out. Just make sure you don’t. Bless.
