Shag Rock was formed in mid-2012 whilst the boys, Alex Wilson, Nick Cavdarski, Jacob Reed, Max Rose, and Chris Dudurovic were still in high-school. It was a bond formed over a thirst for surfing and acoustic guitar sessions. It was really just a group of mates that happened to get a kick out of creating sweet tunes together. This quickly transformed into an upbeat band vibe they couldn’t get enough of. Major inspirations such as Jinja Safari, Husky, and Jack Johnson played a role in creating strong guitar melodies and hooks that resonate throughout their songs. They played their first gig at the Princess theatre shortly after forming, with a nervous energy. After a short while, the nerves disappeared and it just became energy, as the boys were called up to support Jinja Safari on the Brisbane Leg of their Australian Tour.

The boys recorded their first EP, Little Primitive, in mid-2013 at Alchemix studios in West-End. The EP was launched at a tennis-court party at Jacob’s house; however there is limited memory of the event from all 300 participants. It was released on Soundcloud and a number of CD’s were distributed to friends and fans. The three singles, Little Primitive, Solar Flares and Wishing Well were released to surprising success, with Wishing Well reaching #3 in Triple J’s hottest 100 indie list and #3 overall.

The band’s next single Cold Hand’s was released by QUT’s Indie 100 initiative and released via A&R Department. The single did well and scored 20k plays on A&R soundcloud platform.

Ian Haug’s Airlock label signed the band in 2015 and they released an 8 track mini album – self titled “Shag Rock” Two singles were released off the mini album” Champagne and Bring the Rain” with Champagne reaching #4 nationally on the AMRAP Charts.

In 2015 the band had lineup change with Chris and Max leaving the band to concentrate on their university degrees. No a 4 pc band with Max Beech stepping in behind the drum-kit.

The band has spent the second half of 2015 and 2016 writing and recording new music for an 11 track album to be released on Airlocks label mid this year. The guys have not been idle playing gigs and have been supporting touring bands from the south as they sweep though Northern NSW and QLD. Supporting bands such as Ocean Alley, Lurch and Chief, Lime Cordiale , Sea Legs, The Vanns to name a few.

In between gigs, practice, writing and recording, the boys love to have a good surf, game of backyard cricket, and try to quench their insatiable need for the next best choccy milk.
