Vanishing Shapes At The Milk Factory W/ Mzaza & Greshka says
The Milk Factory will be playing host to a fantastical evening of fine and eclectic music on Sunday January 15. Featuring a high caliber of musicality, the lineup consists of Novocastrian experimental folk mainstays, Vanishing Shapes as well as Brisbane locals Mzaza and Greška. With a consistent theme between the bands of blurring lines between old musical traditions with modern extremes the audience may feel as though they have entered a post-apocalyptic folk festival.

Joining the festivities as part of their fifth tour, Vanishing Shapes started life in 2012 as a project at Newcastle Conservatorium. They have since been pushing themselves to defy the laws of tradition in folk music writing pieces that hint at melodic characteristics of Celtic, Turkish and Andean folk music with rhythmic and harmonic ideas stemming from more juxtaposing influences such as math rock, jazz and classical. Being endearingly dubbed ‘fairy music’ during a tour through Northern NSW their unique and eccentric style creates performances that bounce between being playful, harrowing and ethereal.

Recently returned from a huge debut European tour, two-time Queensland Music Award winners MZAZA are taking the world by storm with songs that are unlike anything else coming out of the Australian scene today. Lead by enchanting French-Sephardic vocalist Pauline Maudy, this award-winning group of cultural refugees from Bosnia, Latvia, Greece, Turkey, France and Australia has been mesmerising audiences with powerful and inspired performances.

Greška is built on the ethos of re-popularising western-classical arrangement and uniting feuding genres such as gypsy and classical; folk and metal; drum ‘n’ bass and funk. With an entire repertoire of through composed, hyper-energetic music, Greška attack the concept of fixed genre with an onslaught of eclectic um-pahs and digga-digga-da-digga-digga-das.

Tickets to the bonanza will be available online for pre purchase at only $15 via www.OzTix.com.au, Oztix Retail Outlets and also on the door for $20.
