This Easton bar and restaurant is an institution when it comes to vegetarian food in Bristol
Maitreya Social was one of the first restaurants in the area to be dedicated purely to plant-based eating, and while the owners may have changed over the years, its laid-back atmosphere and creative menu make it the perfect destination for both celebrations and quiet midweek meals out.
The space itself is light and airy and the walls play host to a plethora of striking local art that changes regularly.
Located on Easton’s bustling main strip, St Mark's Road, you can pop in for breakfast (served from 10am to noon and, of course, fully vegan or vegetarian if required), lunch or dinner to sample some of chef Barney McGrath’s creations.
Expect seasonal, inventive dishes, designed to make ingredients work as hard as they possibly can. Each dish is a clever combination of flavours, tastes and textures, such as sweet potato pancakes with ginger braised leeks and grilled halloumi (£10.95), or goat’s cheese, quinoa and beetroot cakes (£5.95). Barney uses spices and Asian flavours wherever possible to ensure plenty of punch packed into each dish.
Prices are reasonable, ranging from £5 for lunch to around £11 for a slap-up dinner.
