Find the perfect pad in the Hungarian capital for a slice of history or to party the night away, hand-picked by Time Out

One of the many significant changes to happen in Budapest over the decades I've lived here has been the rise of Airbnb accommodation. For the perfect city break that delivers on food, culture and nightlife, you can easily find affordable lodgings a short walk or tram hop away. And that includes its famed ruin bars and magnificent bath spas, too!

What is the best area to stay in Budapest?

For partying, book a place in the Jewish Quarter (District VII, so addresses with postcodes starting with 107) and you're a stagger away from your last port of call – and close to options for breakfast. You're also near the Time Out Market Budapest, which holds true for the funky Palace Quarter in District VIII, postcode 108x. The most central location is District V, with a 105x postcode, while leafier Buda (Districts I, II and XII) offers a quieter stay.

Airbnb has locations across the city. So whatever you’re looking for, experience the best of Buda (and Pest) with one of these apartments.

Updated September 2025: We've got two hot new properties on the roster, including a rooftop apartment and forest cabin. You're welcome.

Best Budapest Airbnbs

Luxury apartment in the Jewish Quarter

Get a feel for the Jewish Quarter with a stay in this renovated two-bed flat. The vibe here is understated elegance, with the stand-out features of the building itself – large windows, a fireplace and grand double doors – left to shine on their own. The star attraction is the big shiny piano in the living room, but we also love the black-and-gold en-suite bathroom. And, when it's chilly, there’s underfloor heating to keep you cosy.

Why stay here? To party the night away, as you're right by any number of decent bars and clubs, as well as top-notch breakfast places. You can also tour the murals and discover urban history through street art.

Don't worry, there's a spare toilet as well.

Boutique designer loft in the Jewish Quarter

OK, so the exterior of this property doesn’t promise a huge amount. But like with the proverbial book, don’t let that put you off. We actually really love how this contrasts with its super cute interior. Muted pinks and a whole collection of different vintage finds give this place a genuinely homely feel. Extra points for the hanging bubble chair!

Why stay here? Not only close to Budapest's nightlife zone, you're near one of the city's best local markets on Klauzál tér, any number of breakfast spots and the odd funky shop. And, of course, Time Out Market Budapest.

Rooms: 1 bed. Sleeps up to 4 at a pinch

Retro bargain near Time Out Market Budapest

Neatly done out like it was 1975, all original retro furnishings and children's toys, this family-friendly spot is barely five minutes' walk from the newly opened Time Out Market Budapest, near the metro station and tram 4/6 stop on Blaha Lujza tér. Keleti station is close, too, if you're coming in by train. Flooded with natural light, the spacious living room features two pull-out sofas to augment the separate two-person bedroom. A washing machine, bathtub and A/C also feature, plus high ceilings common to historic flats like these around Pest.

Why stay here? Location and affordability are the watchwords here, plus flexibility – up to four can stay, suitable for a visiting family on a budget. The Hungarian/American ownership can deal with requests of a local nature, and guests are close to transport connections for the baths, City Park and Buda.

Hot tub pad near the Danube

For that romantic getaway with few distractions, head to the Buda side of the river and this couples’ spot with its own private jacuzzi and mood lighting. If it's an anniversary or Valentine's, then Melinda can throw in a few rose petals for good measure – otherwise, enjoy the underfloor heating, bathrobes, bath salts and comfy slippers. Blissful. There's private parking, too.

Why stay here? If you do happen to venture outside, you're close to the Danube and sightseeing boats from Batthyány tér, not to mention Margaret Island. There's also a decent flower stall in the market hall across the square from the jetty, and a couple of terrace cafés.

Luxury apartment with summer pool

Not too many Airbnb properties come with their own rooftop pool, at least not in Budapest, and certainly not on central Király utca, so this shared summer attraction stands out. Any stay is warranted year-round, in fact, given the flat-screen TV with Netflix, washing machine and superfast WiFi. Other highlights include the streamlined dining space and a minimalistic bathroom with parallel sinks, just in case you're getting ready to go out alongside a travelling companion.

Why stay here? You're on Király utca, the centre of the known universe, the king of streets that runs from the city centre (where the airport bus drops you), through the nightlife zone and over the körút to surprisingly funky bars and shops beyond.

Sunny loft near Nyugati station

This bright and spacious loft space should suit most needs and budgets. The set-up is classy minimalist, with a sofa, TV, dining table and fully equipped kitchen area. Dark wooden stairs take you up to the loft bedroom area, with cute fairy lights twisted round the bedframe. This is for two, but with more than enough space to roam. A responsive, helpful, English-speaking host helps to facilitate an easy stay.

Why stay here? Close to Nyugati station, so if you're arriving by train from Prague, you'll usually pull in here. You're also close to the 4/6 tram route, meaning you can zip through Pest and over to Buda in no time. Crossing Váci út, you're in trendy Újlipótváros, with its new-wave cafés and contemporary bakeries.
