Cape Town-based Gember Distillery is getting the ice ready and the glasses shined for an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for ‘the most people drinking gin in one place’. And you’re invited!

Their record attempt is set to take place at their Cape Cheers festival, which will be held at the distillery in Muizenberg on Saturday, April 6, 2024.

The festival gates open at 10am, and while the focus of the day is raising a glass of juniper-infused spirit – the record attempt takes place at noon – patrons can also look forward to a full menu of food trucks, bars and local bands. Sunset Sweat Shop, Natalie Rae, Ambience and Sons of Selassie will all take to the stage to get the groove going.

The guest of honour on the day will be the international Guinness World Record judge and a certified taster, who will keep a close eye on the record attempt. Tickets to the festival (R280 per person) all include four miniature bottles of Gember Distillery’s ‘Two Gingers Gin’ per person, so that everyone can participate in the official, audited GWR tasting.

Whether you want to be a part of history, or simply love a glass of gin, grab your ticket for the Cape Cheers festival from Webtickets.

Or simply pull up a stool at one of Time Out's 12 best bars in Cape Town.
