The city's most iconic cycling race and fringe events will draw over 35,000 participants, starting this Thursday.

If you've been training for the Cape Cycle Tour, all your efforts are about to culminate in the coming days! For those of us not so adept on a bicycle, well, there's going to be quite a bit (read: MUCH MORE) traffic to contend with as Cycle Tour Week officially gets underway on Thursday, 5 March, with rider registration and the three-day Cycle Tour Expo at the DHL Stadium.
The Expo is expected to attract around 35,000 visitors, with about 30,000 cyclists taking to the streets for the 48th edition of the Cape Town Cycle Tour on Sunday, 8 March 2026.
Fun Fact: Did you know this is the world's largest timed cycle race, with an estimated 10,000 of the approximately 30,000 cyclists expected to travel from outside the Mother City to take part in the 2026 Cape Town Cycle Tour?
In 2025, 10,091 travelling cyclists represented over 60 countries. "This is a powerful reminder that the Cape Town Cycle Tour is not just a race, but a global drawcard," said Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.
The city has deployed Safety and Security personnel from Traffic Services, Metro Police, Law Enforcement and Disaster Risk Management along the route to ensure that participants have a smooth and safe journey around the peninsula, added Smith.
