The northern suburbs are about to get seriously competitive.
From Friday, 14 August to Sunday, 16 August, the centre court at CapeGate Shopping Centre becomes a battleground for the latest stop on the MTN SHIFT Gaming Experience.
Players will battle it out for prizes, bragging rights and a golden ticket to the national finals.
And the stakes? They’re getting higher.
CapeGate is the final mall stop on the MTN SHIFT road to the National Finals at Canal Walk, making this weekend the last chance for players to punch their ticket before the series reaches its endgame.
You don’t need esports trophies gathering dust on your shelf to get involved. The tournament is designed for everyone from seasoned competitors hunting qualification to first-timers keen to find out what happens when the controller gets serious.
Ready, player one?
For soccer fans, the action starts before the in-centre weekend. The EA FC 26™ online qualifier kicks off on Sunday, 9 August, with the top four players advancing to the CapeGate Mall Qualifier.
Plenty is riding on that bracket. The winner walks away with a R2,500 CapeGate gift card and qualification for the National Football Final, where a R50,000 prize pool awaits. Second place gets a R1,500 gift card, while third takes home R1,000.
But EA FC 26™ is only one way to enter the arena.
Pick your fighter
Players can test their rhythm in Beat Saber, throw down in the Fighting Cup featuring Brawlhalla, Tekken and Street Fighter 6, or see how quickly they can rebuild a keyboard in the suitably chaotic Keyboard Rebuild Race.
There’s also a PC Gaming Zone and free-play stations for anyone who wants to jump in, have a go and discover their inner button-masher.
Across the eight-centre MTN SHIFT series, competitors are chasing a combined R350,000 prize pool, so there’s plenty more than XP on the line.
