If you love comics, gaming and pop culture you’re going to love Comic Con Cape Town, which returns to the Cape Town International Convention Centre from April 27 - May 1, 2024.

OK, but first… what is a 'Comic Con'?

Comic Cons are conventions (the ‘Con) held in cities around the world, uniting fans of visual storytelling (aka comics, hence ‘Comic’), television, movies, gaming and popular culture trends. A highlight for hardcore fans is the chance for cosplay competitions, dressing up as their favourite comic and pop culture characters. At the Con visitors also have the chance to discover new creative outlets, engage in panels and workshops, enjoy a sneak peek of upcoming releases, and buy exclusive merchandise.

This year Comic Con Cape Town will feature a dedicated ‘Artist Alley’, for artists and creatives to retail original prints, engage in creative exchanges, and even commission one-of-a-kind pieces.

There’s also the chance to meet celebrity guests, from comic artists to actors. For 2024 Comic Con Cape Town – in partnership with FanCon – has announced the attendance of international comic book icon Dan Didio, who had a hand in DC Comics' New 52 Reboot and All-Star Series. Didio is also currently working on a project with industry icon Frank Miller.

A local star in attendance this year is Durban's Anand Ramcheron, who contributed artwork to the Marvel: Crisis Protocol board game, as well as freelancing for the visually spectacular Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

Comic Con Cape Town will also offer a gaming and technology experience, with free-to-play gaming setups and digital tournaments.

The Cape Town International Animation Festival (CTIAF) will also set up at Comic Con (April 27-28) with featured workshops and panel discussions featuring some of the industry's leading digital artists.

Tickets are available from R190 through Howler.
