The Southern Suburbs charm is sadly a little lacklustre this morning as a fire broke out at Restorabilia’s workshop on Bergvliet Main Road.

Security teams were on the scene from around 6:30 am after the blaze broke out at the well-known family-run studio celebrated for its craftsmanship in restoring and designing vintage furniture.

City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Service were on the scene, with four fire engines deployed to battle the intense blaze, which was made more challenging by the presence of extensive flammable and hazardous materials inside the workshop.

Updates from the Bergvliet Community WhatsApp group indicate that the workshop has sustained significant damage, with no reported injuries.

Restorabilia, founded in 1983 by Nick and Marcelle Harding (Parents of Goodluck lead singer Juliet Harding), has long been a creative fixture in the community.

Locals in the group have expressed sadness at the damage but relief that no lives were lost and that local favourite Backyard Café, where Restorabilia trades from, is unaffected.

Further assessments are underway to determine the full extent of the loss to the workshop and its handcrafted pieces.
