Wine Town Stellenbosch is an annual week-long celebration of wine, filled with masterclass tastings and estate events, and comes to a climax this weekend with the Stellenbosch Wine Festival.
'Wine Town Stellenbosch is certainly lining up to be the best showcase of what our region is all about,' says Stellenbosch Wine Routes manager Elmarie Rabe. 'With experiences on farms and in town, it really gives a 360 view that is the sense of place reflected in our wines.'
The spiritual heartland of South African wine has come alive over the past seven days with varietal deep-dives and laid-back lunches, all in the build-up towards the Stellenbosch Wine Festival that rolls into town this weekend, August 2-3.
The Festival sees the Eikestad’s historic Town Hall play host to 60 of the region’s finest wine producers, offering more than 200 wines for tasting! Look out for focused tastings that cast a spotlight on both Cabernet Sauvignon and Chenin Blanc.
From organic champions to ancient producers; from world conquerors to fan favourites, the participating producers represent the length and breadth of the Stellenbosch wine region.
There will be live music on the go, and to keep you fuelled up there will be a generous harvest table filled with seasonal local bites and delights, as well as small plates themed around traditional flavours, and a delectable dessert buffet. It all comes from the kitchens of celebrated chef Bertus Basson.
The Stellenbosch Wine Festival takes place on Friday, August 2 (5 pm – 9 pm) and Saturday, August 3 (2 pm – 6 pm). Tickets cost R490 per person and include 18 wine-tasting tokens, live music performances and the harvest feast. Click here to book tickets online.
