Easter weekend in the Mother City means four laid-back (holi)days filled with hot cross buns and pickled fish, Easter egg hunts and lamb sizzling on the Sunday braai.

Make the most of the long weekend – remember it’s a four-day beak! – by heading over to the Time Out Market Cape Town for delicious Easter treats, and a surprise guest!

Chocolate overload at Nøsh

Nøsh has fast become a local favourite in the Time Out Market Cape Town, drawing a crowd with its artisan roasted coffee as much as its brunch plates and hand-crafted bakes.

And to satisfy your chocolate cravings, from March 25 until the end of Easter Weekend Nøsh will be serving two very special creations. Their OTT Cookie sees the world’s most more-ish chocolate chip cookie given an extra Easter boost with baked-in speckled eggs.

Those colourful eggs are the star of the Easter bundt cake too; a feather-fluted sponge cake drizzled with rainbow-bright icing and topped with speckled eggs.

Bond with the Bunny

Young guests will love the chance to meet the Easter Bunny this weekend. Stop by the Market on Saturday, March 30, for the chance to grab a pic with our on-site celeb. The Bunny will be on hand for photos between 11am – 2pm, with a face painter following close behind for any young fans who want to look the part too.

Chocolate dreams are best eaten frozen

Is there a better way to finish off a feast at the Time Out Market Cape Town, than a scoop – oh, go on, make it two – from Unframed? This artisan ice cream store is famous for its inventive flavours, giving the classics a twist and turning traditional flavour profiles on their head.

If you’ve got a craving for chocolate this Easter, look no further: The Hazelnut Milk Chocolate is a silky standout, while the Salted Chocolate (if it’s available) will make you reconsider just how good a chocolate ice cream can be.

Feeling adventurous? Founder Yann Rey recommends a scoop of the vegan Beetroot, Chocolate and Ginger.

'It’s very different. It’s vegan. It speaks to where we are as a brand,' says Yann. 'It’s a technically hard flavour and we put a ton of work into it; maybe 18 or 20 versions to get to the right one. But over the years it continues to deliver.'

And boy, does it deliver! Go and try it for yourself…

Barakat x YARD

OK, so you’re over the chocolate, and you don’t like hot cross buns or pickled fish. We get that.

Then take a stroll across to YARD, where chef Eugene Smith and Anwar Abdullatief of Barakat have collaborated on a trio of pizzas for the month of Ramadan. But hey, there’s no rule saying you can’t enjoy them at Easter!

On offer you’ll find:

  • Bobotie Pizza: Italian tomato sauce base, Barakat Bobotie and fior di latte cheese, drizzled with olive oil and Barakat Blatjang. Served with sambals, garlic and chilli (R190)
