Update: Thursday, 26 February: Cape Town International Airport  has fully restored operations following a fire in the Northern Service Yard on Tuesday, 24 February 2026.  

The airport issued an Operational Status update, confirming:

• Check-in & Customs: All domestic and international check-in systems, along with Border Management Authority and Customs services, are fully automated and functional.

• Arrivals: International arrivals will continue to use an alternate "Meeters & Greeters" route on the ground floor of the International Inner Lane. At the same time, a final safety assessment of the terminal is being completed.  

• Baggage Handling: Baggage processing is currently being managed manually. Our maintenance teams are working 24/7 to restore automated service to this area.

Traveller Advice: Passengers are advised to arrive early and check their flight status directly with their airline. For real-time updates, please download the ACSA mobile app. 

Update: 6.45am, Wednesday 25 February: Recovery efforts following a fire at Cape Town International Airport on Tuesday, are continuing with the airport confirming the usual Meeters & Greeters corridor has been closed.

"A temporary Meeters & Greeters area has been established at the International Inner Lane (Ground Floor). Visitors collecting international passengers are requested to: Exit the terminal via the “Books & Things” exit and proceed to the International Inner Lane."

Update: 7.45am, Wednesday 25 February: International flights remain suspended after fire at Cape Town Airport

Flight operations at Cape Town International Airport remain impacted on Wednesday morning, following a fire that broke out at the airport's main airport terminal on Tuesday afternoon. 

Cape Town International Airport issued a statement overnight saying, "Technical teams are working on stabilising the network and IT systems. While power has been restored, some operational systems remain constrained as recovery efforts continue." 

International flights remain suspended, while incoming scheduled flights had to be diverted on Tuesday. 

The loss of power meant airlines had to conduct manual check-in at their counters, with the systems not fully restored as yet. 

Domestic travellers are being advised to check-in directly with their airlines about any delays or cancellations - with the airport warning 
passengers may experience longer processing times and delays this morning. 

UPDATE: 4.30pm, Tuesday 24 February: A fire has impacted operations at Cape Town International Airport main terminal building, delaying both international and domestic flights. Baggage handling and check-in systems at the airport are currently unavailable. 

FlySafair has confirmed the following flights have been delayed as a result of the fire at the airport’s main terminal building.

  • FA 102, from Cape Town to Joburg, is estimated to depart Cape Town at 18:50 and is expected to arrive in Joburg at 20:55.
  • FA 103, from Joburg to Cape Town, is estimated to depart Joburg at 21:30 and is expected to arrive in Cape Town at 23:45.
  • FA 600, from Joburg to Cape Town, is estimated to depart Joburg at 16:10 and is expected to arrive in Cape Town at 18:30.
  • FA 176, from Cape Town to Durban, is estimated to depart Cape Town at 19:05 and is expected to arrive in Durban at 21:10.
  • FA 667, from Durban to Joburg, is estimated to depart Durban at 21:45 and is expected to arrive in Joburg at 22:55.

"We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, and we thank our passengers for their patience as we continue to act conservatively in the interest of safety." 

UPDATE: 4pm, Tuesday 24 February: International flights departing from Cape Town have been temporarily suspended following a fire at Cape Town International Airport, earlier on Tuesday.

"The incident affected certain network and IT services. As a precautionary measure, international departures have been temporarily suspended, and incoming international flights are being diverted. International flights that have already landed are being processed," CTIA said in a statement. 

"The fire has been successfully extinguished, and all passengers, staff, and visitors are safe. Passenger safety remains our highest priority.

Passengers travelling domestically are advised to check directly with their airlines and the ACSA Mobile App for the latest flight updates.
