International departures suspended after fire at Cape Town International

What travellers need to know about the fire that has since been contained.

A fire has impacted operations at Cape Town International Airport main terminal building, delaying both international and domestic flights. Baggage handling and check-in systems at the airport are currently unavailable. 

FlySafair has confirmed the following flights have been delayed as a result of the fire at the airport’s main terminal building.

  • FA 102, from Cape Town to Joburg, is estimated to depart Cape Town at 18:50 and is expected to arrive in Joburg at 20:55.
  • FA 103, from Joburg to Cape Town, is estimated to depart Joburg at 21:30 and is expected to arrive in Cape Town at 23:45.
  • FA 600, from Joburg to Cape Town, is estimated to depart Joburg at 16:10 and is expected to arrive in Cape Town at 18:30.
  • FA 176, from Cape Town to Durban, is estimated to depart Cape Town at 19:05 and is expected to arrive in Durban at 21:10.
  • FA 667, from Durban to Joburg, is estimated to depart Durban at 21:45 and is expected to arrive in Joburg at 22:55.

"We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, and we thank our passengers for their patience as we continue to act conservatively in the interest of safety." 

4pm, Tuesday 24 February: International flights departing from Cape Town have been temporarily suspended following a fire at Cape Town International Airport, earlier on Tuesday.

"The incident affected certain network and IT services. As a precautionary measure, international departures have been temporarily suspended, and incoming international flights are being diverted. International flights that have already landed are being processed," CTIA said in a statement. 

"The fire has been successfully extinguished, and all passengers, staff, and visitors are safe. Passenger safety remains our highest priority.

Passengers travelling domestically are advised to check directly with their airlines and the ACSA Mobile App for the latest flight updates.
