The long-anticipated confirmation that Marriott International is bringing the first EDITION Hotel in Africa to the landmark Quay 7 development in the V&A Waterfront has been confirmed.
Marriott International, Inc. and V&A Waterfront Holdings on Thursday announced a signed agreement to open The Cape Town EDITION in 2026.
The brand's debut on the continent with this super-luxury project, comprising 142 rooms and suites, as well as six serviced private residences, is set to be one of South Africa’s most expensive hotel developments in decades, at an estimated R1 billion.
As part of the V&A Waterfront’s Quay 7 district and the broader Granger Bay development, it will also feature a signature rooftop bar, spa, pool, and destination dining, alongside six private residences.
Marriott expressed its intent to grow across the continent, with Cape Town aligning with many of the brand's ethos.

"The V&A Waterfront is an iconic location, and we are confident that this project will set a new standard for luxury hospitality in the market,” stated Karim Cheltout, Senior Vice President, Development, Middle East & Africa, Marriott International.
The development will offer sweeping views of the Mother City's iconic natural landmarks, such as Table Mountain, Lion’s Head, Signal Hill, and Table Bay. Shanghai-based architectural firm Neri & Hu has been appointed to design The Cape Town EDITION and The Residences at The Cape Town EDITION, in collaboration with local architect and design firm StudioMAS.
David Green, Chief Executive Officer of the V&A Waterfront, called it an "architecturally stunning new building", stating that Cape Town's selection as the destination is a privilege.
"We are witnessing growing tourism demand in the city, and The Cape Town EDITION will offer guests a plethora of destination-led experiences and direct access to the world’s leading luxury retail brands, top-class restaurants, charter cruises and other incredible experiences,” added Green.
