It’s sad to hear about restaurant closures, particularly those that served a solid purpose. One Park listening bar in Gardens was one of those places where you could meet friends for a quick chat, which then turned into an evening of dinner and dancing.

Throw in a vinyl DJ, and you had no reason to leave, which is why it came as a great shock to hear that the wine bar would be closing at the end of June.

The announcement was made on the bar’s official Instagram page. While no reason was given for the closure, the One Park Team said that after much consideration, they’ve decided to close the venue at the end of this month.

“We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who walked through our doors, supported us, shared a meal, hosted an event, or simply spent time in the space. It has been a privilege to share this with you,” noted the official statement.

However, the bar still has a few events and dance sessions planned for the rest of June, and invited patrons to have one last jol with them.

“While this chapter is coming to an end, we’re thankful for everyone and what we built together along the way,” the team signed off.

Final send-off

Their next big event will be the One Park & Duck Duck Goose Watch Party on Thursday, 11 June, when Bafana play Mexico in the FIFA World Cup opening match.

The live game will be aired from 9pm to 11:30pm with the Duck Duck Goose soundsystem playing some Bafana-inspired classics before kick-off and after the final whistle.

Panchos is turning the page!

In other restaurant-related news, Panchos will serve its final meal this weekend on Saturday, 13 June, at its Observatory home.

After 41 years as an institution in Obs Lower Main Road, the Mexican restaurant is relocating to new premises in Cape Town following the sale of the Observatory building.

For one last fiesta before the big move, restaurant owners Richard and Johnny urged locals “to come visit us one last time in Obs, share your memories, post your favourite old photos, and celebrate 41 incredible years with us.”

In the meantime, keep an eye on the restaurant’s social media pages for the official announcement of its new premises.
