A guide to the best things to do and places to go in Cape Town this weekend, from Friday, 21 August to Sunday, 23 August.

This weekend is filled with boxing, games, emo parties and much, much more. And while we’re locked into Women’s Month, it’s only fitting that we mention Mandisi Dyantyis Symphonic Celebration at the Artscape on Saturday.
Another event that should be on your radar is Dirty Boxing - Women’s Edition. The black-tie affair features 12 all-female bouts to raise funds and awareness for the Menstruation Foundation to combat period poverty.
Rugby fans are probably planning their weekend activities around Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry, with the first match kicking off at Ellis Park. Check out our local listings for fan zones in your area: Where to watch live sports in Cape Town

What happens in Fight Club stays in Fight Club. In this case, it’s the Homecoming Centre and a black-tie event. For one night only, the city’s top female boxers and dirty boxers step into the ring for a groundbreaking showcase of skill, courage, and athleticism. Every aspect of the event has been reimagined, from an all-female fight card, officiating team, and broadcast crew to ring men replacing the traditional ring girls.
Miss the emo classics from the 2000s? These days, the music doesn’t hit the same as Paramore’s ‘Misery Business’ or Fall Out Boy’s ‘Sugar, We’re Goin Down’. Now you can relive those melancholy moments at Emo Night. Celebrating the 10th anniversary, emo rock fans can look forward to a pop-up tattoo station and a ball pit.
Anchored by Wikus du Toit, a panel of industry experts discusses how AI is already reshaping how stories are developed, produced and distributed. Yet, the big questions around authorship, ownership and transparency remain wide open.
Spring Is Rebellious: The Art & Life of Albie Sachs is a tribute to the former Constitutional Court Justice and political activist. The symposium expands upon several of the exhibition’s central themes, revisiting key moments in Southern African art history, and concludes with a panel discussion on Sachs’s seminal 1989 paper, Preparing Ourselves for Freedom.
Think of it as a real-life version of the game Impostor. Only this time, someone among you is the demon.
