Your complete guide to must-do experiences and events from Friday, 10 April to Sunday, 12 April across the Mother City.
This upcoming weekend is one of those weekends where Cape Town goes all in. Yes, even after the Hyrox Easter weekend shenanigans!
The Two Oceans Marathon draws tens of thousands of runners and spectators to the Southern Suburbs and beyond, while the city's newest cultural event - LUMENOCITY - is set to transform the Company's Garden into an illuminated playground after dark.
And then there's Kiss Kiss at the Castle of Good Hope on Saturday, which is firmly its own thing.
Broadly, you have a choice this weekend: run, watch people run, wander through light installations, or surrender to a daytime festival headlined by Basement Jaxx. Any of these is the right answer!
Richard O'Brien's beloved rock musical is well into its run at Theatre on the Bay, delivered by Pieter Toerien's production with the Luitingh Alexander Musical Theatre Academy. Iconic one-liners, a killer soundtrack, and a very enthusiastic audience experience. If you missed it over Easter, this is still very much your window.
While the race is technically routed in the Southern Suburbs, the Atlantic Seaboard stretch of the Two Oceans route takes runners along some of the most spectacular coastline in the world. Camps Bay and Sea Point make for exceptional vantage points - bring a jacket, bring a sign, and find a coffee spot with a view. The ultra runs on Saturday, with the half-marathon following on Sunday.

The annual Scarborough Seafood Festival brings fresh catches, craft stalls, and live music to the Peninsula's most tucked-away community. A favourite among locals who know to make the drive. Pair it with a walk on the beach and you've got a very solid Saturday in the books.
Africa's first large-scale festival dedicated entirely to light-based art takes over the historic Company's Garden for four nights. More than 20 installations by South African artists - including projection mapping by Yay Abe across the South African Museum and National Gallery, a 10-metre LED chamber you can step inside, and the Beam of Hope, a vertical column of light visible across the city's skyline. An entirely new kind of Cape Town cultural event, and one timed to coincide with the biggest running weekend of the year.

The culture-led daytime festival that doesn't do ordinary takes over the Castle of Good Hope for a full-day programme headlined by Grammy Award-winning UK electronic legends Basement Jaxx. The full lineup also includes Mr Cutts, Internet Girl, Mafikizolo, Ready D, Balkanology, and Desmond and the Tutus. Two stages, curated food from Cape Town's best chefs, immersive theatre, roaming performers, stilt walkers, and golden-hour energy that carries well into the evening. Previous editions have sold out.
Athol Fugard's landmark apartheid-era drama, set in 1950s South Africa, is currently running at Artscape Arena with Sello Maake kaNcube, Lebohang Motaung, and Daniel Anderson. An uncomfortable watch in the very best sense. Weekend matinee and evening performances available.
A night dedicated to Bollywood classics - exactly the kind of Friday evening that makes no apologies for what it is: University Students stripping away the "Uncle" energy and strictly for the under-35 crowd. IDs will be checked on entrance to verify age requirement. No exceptions
Phil de Lange's comedy show blends music and observational humour across a five-night run in Observatory. Relatable frustrations, a witty take on emotional stability, and exactly the kind of low-key Friday or Saturday night that rounds out a busy running weekend beautifully.
Between Us Productions brings two plays by award-winning playwright Gavin Werner to the stage in this double bill at The Masque. Meeting Murphy is a gripping, darkly comic confrontation between a middle-aged man and his former teenage bully on a remote hiking trail, exploring masculinity, memory and the long shadow of schoolyard cruelty. Earlier in the evening, Spanish Steps - winner of the 2025 WGSA Award for Best Produced Script - delivers a sharp, funny and unexpectedly moving look at a couple forced to confront their blind spots in close quarters.
Saturday nights get loud at the Brass Bell with an open-mic karaoke session hosted by KEDO Events. Great food, cold drinks, seaside views and a karaoke crowd that brings the energy. Bar specials start from 6pm.
A celebratory night of drag, cabaret and pure stage magic - perfect for anyone who loves live performance and a bit of sparkle. Angel Lalamore celebrates 25 years of sing-along cabaret - so expect big voices, bold looks and plenty of crowd-pleasing moments as one of Cape Town’s legendary performers marks the milestone with friends and fellow queens.
The Dirt Blues Band brings the legendary music of Eric Clapton to the stage with a live tribute setlist featuring timeless hits, including Layla and Wonderful Tonight.
The Two Oceans weekend doesn't only belong to runners. Killarney Raceway runs its own kind of fast-paced event on Saturday, offering a very different kind of adrenaline fix on the Northern Suburbs side of the city.
Celebrate the close of the 2026 harvest with an atmospheric evening of live music and seasonal dining on the werf at Vergenoegd Löw. Guests are welcomed with a glass of Cap Classique before settling in for a generous 3-course meal as jazz ensemble Moonshine, led by saxophonist Dan Shout, performs swing, jazz standards and familiar classics under the open sky.
