Your guide to the best experiences across the Mother City this Friday, 27 March to Sunday, 29 March.

If “I’m bored” were a person, you’d be side-eying your kid right now. Lucky for you, the start of the first-term school holidays brings with it lots of fun adventures for mahala.
First up is the Cape Town Sixes Festival. Spectators get free entry to cheer on up-and-coming talent from the sidelines. Another freebie is Cape Town Opera presents Opera Blocks: Under the Sea, an immersive musical production for tiny tots. And then we have the Wynberg Family Festival and an Easter cookie decorating workshop.
For the adults, there’s Paradisco: Gypsy Woman (mermaids only) and an over-30s party. Those of ya’ll who managed to secure tickets to the Cape Town International Jazz Festival, have fun, but not too much fun.
For those of you who snoozed on their CTIJF tickets, this one’s for you. Jazz pianist Hilton Schilder will perform in Khaw’phinde Mzala fashion at the Alliance Francaise. You’re welcome!
Janet Farquharson (Janet’s Planet) invites you to be present, intentional, and to embark on a sound journey with an open mind and an open heart. The event is family-friendly and includes a 60-minute sonic immersion designed to transport you beyond the ordinary.
I was today years old when I first heard about International Mermaid Day (March 29). Imagine that, a whole day dedicated to mermaids! If you love dancing by the shore and glitter in your hair, Paradisco: Gypsy Woman is taking over Grand Africa Café & Beach for an evening of chill vibes and good music.
The SPAR Women’s Challenge kicks off in Cape Town this weekend, and this year’s theme is #CelebrateHer, honouring every entrant for the beautiful woman she is. One lucky entrant will get Spar vouchers worth R30K. And don’t forget, the race supports the SPAR Petals Programme, which works to end period poverty.
Time Out Tip: You would have worked up a sweat after the race. If you can muster the last of your strength, run on over to Time Out Market Cape Town to fuel up.
The Wynberg Family Festival is as wholesome as it gets. Amusement rides. Live entertainment. Safe. Community-focused. The three-day event is the perfect opportunity to allow kids to be kids.
Thank goodness for events like the Cape Town Sixes Festival. An incubator for development teams and emerging talent, the annual multi-sport celebration features cricket, golf, and padel. Additional sporting codes are introduced each year.
Cape Town Opera’s Opera Blocks is an exciting initiative that invites parents to introduce their babies and toddlers to music and theatre. The immersive production is directed by Elizma Badenhorst and performed by Cape Town Opera’s Judith Neilson Young Artists and Vocal Ensemble. Space is limited, so book your spot now.
The undercover parking area outside Entrance 6 at CapeGate Shopping Centre is where it’s at this Saturday. CG Fit Club is hosting a programme for those brave souls who can endure a 45-minute bootcamp. If you can survive till the end, there’s a Kauai smoothie with your name on it.
Catering specifically to the over-30 crowd, DJ Jazzy D has a special night in store. Destino’s at GrandWest Casino will take you down memory lane with the best old school music. Sharing the spotlight is Cape Town’s Queen of Soul, Salomé.
This Easter, why not encourage the little ones to make their own sweet treats? They get 30 minutes of Easter cookie decorating and another 30 minutes of play time in the studio.
Mini Makers is bringing the fun to Burgundy Square this weekend. Children can create their own bead bracelet or keyring and take it home.
An electronic outdoor festival like no other, HABITAT ~ Whisper in the Woods, encourages festivalgoers to connect with nature and their surroundings. Think more AfrikaBurn with bougie glamping, less Mad Max.
Celebrating 30 years of shared musical history, Arno Carstens and Albert Frost are the collaboration fans have been waiting for. The carefully curated experience reflects on three decades of songwriting, friendship, and creative cross-pollination.
