Harrington Street is in the heart of Cape Town's creative East City precinct – check out the Time Out guide over here – and the perfect locale for the inaugural Mother of Music (MoM) concert, which runs from 4 pm – 11 pm on Saturday, September 7.
MoM is a Spotify initiative to celebrate and amplify African music and culture, and this year will feature two stages – one at Woodhead Parking and another at TEXAS – hosting an array of live performances, headlined by SPINALL, alongside HONEYMOAN, YoungstaCPT, K-KEED , Internet Girl and more.
'Since Covid, there's been a void in street closures and youth concerts in the Cape Town CBD. We're excited to launch a new era for the city's live music scene with Street Play,' says Ma'or Harris, MOM Promoter and Production - MAORIGNAL PRODUCTIONS. 'Harrington Street is set to become the go-to destination for music experiences, cultural movements, and the next wave of First Thursday events.'
Beyond the music, you'll find food stalls dishing up authentic Mother City and Cape Malay street food and pick up MoM streetwear. And, because this is South Africa, the Springbok/New Zealand rugby match will be shown: there's a dedicated Rugby Watch party at TEXAS at 5 pm.
Tickets for Mother of Music are free, but you'll need to book online via Quicket . You can find out more on Spotifymom.com, and get in the mood ahead of time with the dedicated MoM playlist .
