The Stables Restaurant at the historic Vergelegen Wine Estate will remain closed until further notice, following a fire at the restaurant on Tuesday afternoon.

While the cause of the fire is still unknown and assessments are ongoing, Vergelegen has confirmed that Stables will be closed to patrons until further notice.  Other experiences on the estate remain open to visitors, including the Rose Terrace.

While the cause of the fire remains unknown and assessments are ongoing, Vergelegen has confirmed that other areas of the estate remain open to visitors, including the Rose Terrace. Guests with enquiries or existing bookings are encouraged to contact Vergelegen’s customer services team on +27 21 847 2111 or customerservices@vergelegen.co.za.

Vergelegen is one of South Africa’s oldest wine estates, established in the early 1700s. The estate also holds a place in modern South African history as Nelson Mandela often used it for important diplomatic meetings and to host visiting heads of state and dignitaries.

Further updates will be provided once additional verified information becomes available.
