462. That's a big number.

And it's been 462 long and quiet days since we last heard any new music from GoodLuck. That was on 25 April 2025, when they released 'Would I Lie To You', a collab with UK artist Youngr. But now, after taking some time off to focus on family, the Mother City’s much-loved electro-pop livewires are officially back.

The new single – ‘Last Deep Breath’ – is out now (like, right now) and marks what the band describes as the start of a new musical era.

After a few early listens to ‘Last Deep Breath’, it seems they’re certainly not sliding quietly into our Spotify playlists.

Instead, driven by euphoric beats and a nostalgic ’90s house streak, the track is a high-energy reminder of what made GoodLuck one of South Africa’s most successful live electronic acts.

But beneath the dancefloor-ready production lies a more reflective message about living in the moment, because, as ‘Last Deep Breath’ reminds us, nobody knows quite how much time we have left.

“This song feels bigger than just a release for us,” says lead vocalist Juliet Harding. “It’s a reminder that we’re all living on borrowed time in the most beautiful possible way. Somewhere along the line, we forget that we’re here to feel deeply, take chances, dance badly, fall in love and squeeze every ounce of joy from this life. Last Deep Breath is our invitation to do exactly that.’

If this track is their invitation, we’re on board.

Formed in Cape Town by Harding and producer Ben Peters, GoodLuck have spent more than a decade delivering chart-topping singles and delivering energetic live performances in South Africa and abroad.

Local Intel: Cape Town according to GoodLuck!

Their best-known releases include ‘Taking It Easy’, ‘Back in the Day’, ‘Be Yourself’ and ‘Fading’, and their live shows have taken them from Kirstenbosch to international festival stages.

For Peters, the new single is also a response to a world that often feels increasingly gloomy.

“I guess Last Deep Breath is a reminder that life is happening right now. We don’t get a dress rehearsal,” he says. “We don’t know how many summers we have left, how many adventures are waiting around the corner or how many deep breaths remain. Before we take our last one, perhaps the greatest thing we can do is give this life absolutely everything we’ve got.”

I’ll second that.

‘Last Deep Breath’ by GoodLuck is available on major streaming platforms from Friday 31 July.
