Hot cross buns are a classic Easter treat, pretty much like pickle(d) fish and chocolate bunnies. Usually, soft, sweet buns spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg, packed with dried fruit, and topped with the signature cross. But these days the flavours are getting a little more adventurous. 

Last year, we checked out this unique offering from Jason's Bakery, the Bunettone. Enough said! This year, we picked up three different and out-of-the-box hot cross buns, from sweet to extra sweet and the experimental, including KFC’s Hotter Cross Bun Burger - you can watch the full taste test experience shared by Andrew Hallett, Time Out South Africa's Content Director, in the video below.
