Who doesn’t love a good deal, especially when it gets you closer to some of the most delicious dishes the Mother City has to offer? And if you find the drag of starting a new week just too much to bear, then you’re in luck.
This winter, Time Out Market Cape Town is heating things up with a menu of special offers with its popular ‘Mother City Mondays’ promotion.
Available from 4 pm – 7 pm every Monday, hungry diners can look forward to free sides, hefty discounts and some all-round sweet savings.
Starting early, Nøsh dishes up the discounts with three tasty combos: Babka and coffee for R60, BLAT Bagel and coffee combo for R100, or a Salmon Bagel and coffee combo for R120.
Got a taste for Asian? At How Bao Now you can tuck into two of their tasty bao buns for just R160. Choose between the kimchi pork or flaming chicken; they’re both delicious.
Across the hall – stop at the Pumphouse Bar to pick up a craft brew along the way – chef Vusi Ndlovu serves up fine fire-kissed African cuisine at Mlilo. Here you don’t want to miss out on his Suya plates: grilled pork/chicken skewers marinated in a homemade West African suya spice blend and brown butter, and served with delicious plantain ketchup. And to mop up all that delicious sauce? They’ll throw in a complimentary garlic roll or pap with every order.
It's impossible to pick just one favourite plate at the Time Out Market Cape Town, but John van Zyl’s West Coast Mussels – with crisp fennel salad on a slice of toasted sourdough – is a front-runner. This month Mother City Mondays offers this stunner from The Melting Pot Seafood at 30% off!
30 is the magic number for Mother City Mondays, as you’ll also enjoy a 30% discount off the Penne Beef Ragu from CARNE; a perfect wintry dish from chef Giorgio Nava to ward away the chills.
As is Ramenhead'sTonkotsu Ramen, a hearty bowl of ramen broth, handmade noodles and perfectly cooked pork belly. It’s one of the best-selling bowls in the Market, and you can get it for 30% less every Monday. It plays nicely with a touch of Sushi, so step next door to Sushiya for 30% off their five-piece Omakase Nigiri... the chef will slice up whatever is fresh that day.
Time Out Market Cape Town also celebrates the flavours of the Cape, and for a taste of Cape Malay cooking you’ll want to head on over to Barakat, where chef Anwar Abdullatief serves up an inspired take on traditional plates. ‘Ou Mense Onder Die Komberse’ (Old people under the blankets) is a new interpretation of a classic, with slow-braised beef shin cooked in nutmeg and cloves, wrapped in cabbage and served with baby beetroots and basmati rice. Start with a few handmade samosas and sweeten the deal with a glass of boeber. They’re all 30% off on Mother City Mondays.
If spice is your thing, then step along to Kapoochka too. Famous for its modern take on Indian street food, their Dahi Samoosa comes at 30% off, so you’ll want to fire things up with a few.
Hungry yet? We thought so. Pack a healthy appetite and head on over to Time Out Market Cape Town in the V&A Waterfront for some of Cape’s best cooking.
