In O₂, artist Waranya “Jood Jung” Thongbor explores the rhythm of breathing through a restrained body of abstract works built from circles, dots, lines and repeated forms. The exhibition takes its title from oxygen – the colourless, odourless gas that humans rely on to breathe, using its simplicity as a starting point for a broader meditation on movement, transition and the cycles of life.
Working without rulers, Jood Jung creates drawings and paintings through freehand marks and stamping acrylic onto canvas. Repeated dots build up fields of colour and texture, while overlapping circles and geometric forms suggest expansion, contraction and the continual movement between one state and another. Some works are pared back to almost monochromatic compositions, while others introduce stronger contrasts of blue, red, orange, black, white and metallic tones.
The exhibition’s accompanying text describes breathing as a process of leaving oneself and returning again, with the cycle of arising and fading unfolding within every breath. In the same way, the works move between simplicity and repetition, using seemingly basic forms to suggest something more continuous and expansive.
