Comedic play that won the 1937 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. This slice of life story of a slightly batty, eccentric New York family explores love, complex relationships, hilarious word association games, and change.

SEEKING:

Penelope "Penny" Sycamore (40's-50's) Penelope is the mother of Essie and Alice, wife of Paul, and daughter of Martin. Her main goal is to ensure that everybody is happy.

Martin "Grandpa" Vanderhof (60's-70's) Father of Penny, Grandfather of Alice and Essie. He is an eccentric, happy old man who has never paid his income tax because he doesn't believe in it.

Alice Sycamore (20's) Fiancee of Tony Kirby, daughter of Paul and Penny, sister of Essie. She is the only "normal" family member.

Tony Kirby (20's) Fiance of Alice, Son of Mr. and Mrs. Kirby. He is VP of Kirby & Co.

Anthony W. Kirby (40's-50's) Husband of Mrs. Kirby, father of Tony. He is a very proper man who is President of Kirby & Co. and secretly despises his job. His hobby is raising expensive orchids.

Essie Carmichael (20's-30's) Wife of Ed, daughter of Paul and Penny Sycamore, sister of Alice. She is childish. She dreams of being a ballerina, but is a terrible dancer.

Boris Kolenkhov (30's-40's) A Russian who escaped to America shortly before the Russian Revolution. He is the eccentric ballet instructor of Essie. Russian/European accent required.

Paul Sycamore (40's - 50's) Father of Essie and Alice, husband of Penny, Son-in-law of Martin. He is a Tinker who manufactures fireworks in the basement with the help of his assistant, Mr. De Pinna.

Ed Carmichael (20's-30's) Husband of Essie, son-in-law of Paul and Penny. He is an amateur printer who prints anything.

Mr. De Pinna (30's-50's) The iceman who came inside to speak to Paul five years before and never left. He helps Mr. Sycamore build fireworks. He is an odd fellow.

Donald (20's-40's) African American, boyfriend of Rheba, who seems to serve as volunteer handyman for the Sycamores.

Rheba (20's-40's) African American, the cook to the Sycamore family. She is dating Donald.

Wilbur C. Henderson (20's-40's) An employee of the IRS. He comes to collect the tax money owed by Grandpa.

Miriam Kirby (40's - 50's) Wife of Mr. Kirby, mother of Tony. She is an extremely prim and proper woman.

Grand Duchess Olga Katrina (40's-60's) One of the Grand Duchesses of Russia before the Revolution, forced to flee to America where she has found work as a waitress in Childs Restaurant. Russian/European accent required.

Gay Wellington (30's-50's) An actress, she is an alcoholic who gets drunk and passes out shortly after arriving.
